The Young Women’s Parliamentary Group (YWPG) held its first meeting for the year on Thur 28th Feb at the Paul Tovua Complex, Parliament. The Young Women’s Parliamentary Group is formed under the auspices of the Speaker of Parliament Mr Ajilon Jasper Nasiu as the patron. The mission of the Group is to create space for young women to experience and participate in leadership.
During the opening of the meeting the Acting Clerk to Parliament Mr. David Kusilifu thanked the outgoing executive and welcomes all the new and old members of YWPG. He further stated that Parliament will continue to support the work that YWPG does and given that gender is a crucial part of Parliament’s Strategic Plan his office is looking forward to ensuring that YWPG will be the platform where young women can raise policy issues though the different parliamentary processes.
As part of the first meeting the group elected the new executive for 2019-2020. Ms. Regina Lepping is the new chairlady and other executive members include, Ms. Natasha Eddie, Ms. Raywin Taroaniara, Ms. Georgina Tasra and Ms. Salome Pilumate.
The Advisor to the Group and Director of Parliament Education Unit thanked the outgoing executive for the work well done from 2017-2018 and welcomes the new executive. The chairlady Ms. Lepping is confident to take YWPG through the next two years and building working relations with our new leaders in the 11th Parliament.
