The Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee has convened its hearing into the 2018 Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2018 on Monday 13th August 2018.

The object of this Bill is to authorize additional supplementary expenditure of two hundred and twenty five million, nine hundred and sixty two thousand, and six hundred and seventy three dollars for the service of the year ending 31st December 2018.

This supplementary appropriation is to supplement additional expenditure and expenditure already authorized by the Minister for Finance and Treasury under provisions in the 2018 through contingencies warrants and advance warrants.

Ministries or stakeholders that have appeared before the Committee on day one (Monday 13th August 2018) include the Central Bank of Solomon Islands, Ministry of Finance and Treasury, Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, Ministry of Police, National Security and Correctional Services and the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet. However, the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet will appear again for further deliberations with the Committee.

Day two (Tuesday 14th August 2018) of the PAC hearing saw the Committee scrutinizes another five line Ministries with their submission heads in the 2018 Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2018. The Ministries that appeared before the PAC on day two of inquiry include the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development and the Ministry of Communications and Aviation.

Other remaining Ministries will continue today (Wednesday 15th August) and probably conclude by Thursday or Friday this week.

A report containing recommendations of the hearing will be compiled later for MP's to prepare them in their debate before passing the Bill. The 2018 Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2018 has been introduced in second reading by the Minister of Finance and Treasury on Friday the 10th August 2018.

Parliament is currently on Special Adjournment until Wednesday 22nd August 2018 to allow the PAC execute its oversight role.
